Product Description Salicylic acid powder - 100 g Information: This additive is used in skin care products and shampoos. Instructions for use: a maximum content of 2% is allowed in adult formulations that should be left on the skin and a maximum of 3% for rinsing products. The ingredient should not be used in products intended for children under three years of age, except as part of the preservative or shampoo. Formulation Tips: Salicylic acid can be very difficult to add in an emulsion formulation (a cream or lotion) because it is not so soluble in water or oils. One option is to neutralize it to sodium salicylate by reacting it with sodium bicarbonate. This will fizz in water until the reaction is over, the salt is just as effective for the skin as acid but has fewer solubility problems. Otherwise, you can try to disperse it beforehand in a suitable solvent. Propylene glycol and glycerin can help add what is called a hydrotropic (to improve solubility).
